update: ga-965p-s3 hackintosh over 1 year in

I wanted to give an update to everyone on how my ga-965p-s3 hackintosh PATA system has been holding up.

I just downloaded and installed 10.6.7 on it today, once again it totally killed my onboard Marvell network card as all of the other previous updates had.

This time I didn't feel like fooling with hacking kexts to get it working so I simply disabled the onboard network card and installed a generic Realtek 8139 pci network card, it worked without any need to hack kexts.

Also, instead of having to track down a compatible version of voodooHDA for the onboard sound card I disabled it and plugged in one of the c-media usb 7.1 sound cards that are widely available on ebay for under 10 dollars. once again this just worked and didn't require any third party kext files, as snow leopard sees it as a built in apple sound card with microphone input and sound output jacks. It's fun to tinker with getting stuff to work, but sometimes it's really nice just to have a bulletproof install that doesn't break when you install updates from apple.

Also an update on the mac mini I mentioned before, it was a no go, wouldn't do anything beyond powering on, I even tried doing a reflow on it using a heat gun, and it didn't work.

I bought a 1.83 core 2 duo parts machine mac mini  off ebay that boots, but has a really weird ass issue where it will only boot into the osx snow leopard desktop if booted in safe mode, it also has to boot from the install DVD in safe mode. I'm not sure how to go about fixing it, my local Apple genius bar quoted me 200 dollars to replace the logic board, considering that I'm now into it and the other dead parts machine for approximately 250 dollars I'm not sure if I want to spend any more money, or if I should list it and the other remaining parts from the other mac mini on ebay and try to recoup my investment.
