I am sure you have probably seen other reviews for Star Trek Online that were written by journalists, this isn’t one of them.
I bought a digital copy of Star Trek Online on March 21st 2010, and played it up until today when I cancelled my monthly subscription to it. I’m not a stranger to MMO games, I was a beta tester for Sierra Online’s MMO game “The Realm” and most recently I have purchased and played all of the different campaigns for NCsoft’s Guildwars series. I’ve never played World of Warcraft and have always avoided subscription based games unless they have an affordable yearly fee (I used to pay the 50 dollar yearly fee to play “the realm")
After playing STO for a week or two I have a few observations and thoughts for the game.
Away team missions are NOT fun, in fact they are extremely boring!!
Space combat missions are generally balanced but some missions are impossible to complete at the character level that they are assigned at. (Crystalline Entity mission)
My overall impression of this game?
Let me know when this becomes a Free to play game as it currently isn’t worth paying a monthly subscription for. I might try it again if the monthly subscription fees are transported away.
I’m uninstalling STO and headed back to play Guild Wars
